Colosseum archaeological park restarts

The Council of State has approved with two rulings the appeals proposed by MiBACT regarding theestablishment of the Colosseum Archaeological Park and the appointment of the Park’s director through an international selection.

The issues addressed in the rulings handed down by the Council of State are the necessary involvement of Roma Capitale in the decision-making process, the nature of the source establishing the Park, and the appointment of the director of the Colosseum Archaeological Park through an international selection.

“The Council of State’s ruling really does justice. Now both the Colosseum Archaeological Park and the international selection of the director, which were blocked by the Lazio Regional Administrative Court ruling, can start again. Even Rome, with the most important and visited Archaeological Park in the world, will be able to align itself with the museums and cultural places that are experiencing a successful season thanks to the reform of the Italian museum system and the new directors,” said Dario Franceschini.

He also announced that Irina Bokova, director general of UNESCO, will participate in the board of directors of the archaeological park.
