Colosseum Archaeological Park director appointed: the committee that was tasked with appointing the park’s first director chose Alfonsina Russo.

Anarchaeologist with a Ph.D. in classical archaeology, she has worked in museum layouts and museum management, edited numerous publications, and served as Soprintendente Archeologo per l’Etruria meridionale and Soprintendente per l’Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio per l’Area metropolitana di Roma, la provincia di Viterbo, and l’Etruria meridionale.

Cultural Heritage Minister Dario Franceschini said that "Alfonsina Russo’s name comes out of an innovative and transparent selection that all museums around the world have studied and appreciated as a possible model. Of this Italy must be proud."
She added, "This is a profile of the highest quality that will be able to combine research, innovation and protection for one of the most famous monuments in the world and an authentic icon of Italy."

The director promised for next year more openness, more cleanliness and more cooperation with the City Council.
