The Ministers’ Court has dismissed charges of embezzlement and disclosure of official secrets against former culture minister Gennaro Sangiuliano. The file had been forwarded to the Tribunal of Ministers by the Rome prosecutor’s office following a complaint filed last September by MP Angelo Bonelli of Avs. The affair had stemmed from the Boccia case that also led to Sangiuliano’s resignation. The investigation led by Public Prosecutor Giulia Guccione and her colleague Barbara Trotta conducted some in-depth investigations but no evidence emerged against the former minister.
“I had no doubt that former minister Gennaro Sangiuliano was totally unrelated to the charges against him,” says current minister Alessandro Giuli, “but I am particularly pleased with the news of the dismissal by the Tribunal of Ministers and once again extend my friendly sympathy to him.”
“I express my closeness to my friend Gennaro Sangiuliano, who has lived through really difficult months, marked by unfounded accusations and unfair attacks,” Senate President Ignazio La Russa wrote on his social media. “I am really happy that this affair ended with the filing by the Tribunal of Ministers. Besides, knowing the man and the respect he has for institutions, this affair could not have had a different outcome. My sincere and affectionate embrace goes out to him.”
“We were certain of this,” says the chairman of the House Culture Committee and national head of Culture and Innovation of Fratelli d’Italia, Federico Mollicone. “Now we are waiting for the outcomes of the lawsuits. Those who destroyed a man’s personal life and career for a few more clicks on their site must answer for it in every criminal and civil forum. To Gennaro Sangiuliano goes our consistent and unwavering solidarity.”
