Cecco Bravo's Armida donated to the collection of the Uffizi Galleries

Donated by the Friends of the Uffizi Gallery association to the Uffizi Galleries is Cecco Bravo's painting depicting Armida.

A new painting has been donated to the Uffizi Galleries: theArmida by Francesco Montelatici, one of the most celebrated artists of seventeenth-century Florence, also known as Cecco Bravo.

The work was purchased at auction by the Friends of the Uffizi Gallery association, chaired by Maria Vittoria Colonna Rimbotti.
The painting had been spotted at auction by Eike Schmidt, director of the Uffizi Galleries, and the purchase was a “happy coincidence” on the very eve of the artist’s birthday.

Armida, the famous sorceress from Gerusalemme Liberata, will soon be on view in the new rooms dedicated to Caravaggio and the 17th century in the Statues and Paintings Gallery.
