Casa Balla will remain open through 2022: after the great success of the exhibition Casa Balla. From the House to the Universe and Back, the opening to the public of the Roman Futurist house where Giacomo Balla lived and worked from 1929 until his death in 1958 continues.

The Balla family, consisting of Giacomo, his wife Elisa Marcucci and daughters Luce and Elica, also painters, moved into the house on Via Oslavia in the summer of 1929. The house itself was transformed into a work of art.

It was a laboratory of experimentation with painted walls and doors, ornate furniture and furnishings, paintings and sculptures, clothes designed and sewn in the house, and many other objects that created one total project. In Giacomo Balla’s universe, functionality and aesthetics coexist: art invests everything and anything designed and built for everyday use.

An intellectual salon for many personalities from the world of art and culture, Casa Balla was closed in the 1990s with the disappearance of the Signorine Balla. Declared of cultural interest by the Ministry of Culture in 2004, only today thanks to a long and careful work of reconnaissance, study and securing, curated by MAXXI and the Special Superintendence of Rome in collaboration with the heirs, has it been possible to set up the house with the works of the master and his daughters and make it accessible to the public.

Hours: Tuesday to Friday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Closed Mondays. Guided tour maximum 12 people.
