Carthusian Monastery of Trisulti in the hands of the ultra-right: MiBAC launched inquiries into regularity

As we told you on these pages a few months ago, the ancient Carthusian Monastery of Trisulti, the thirteenth-century monastery in Collepardo (Frosinone), was recently granted to the Dignitatis Humanae Institute (DHI) foundation, a bastion ofCatholic extremism, associated with ultra-right-wing movements, and which has as its motto “defending the Judeo-Christian foundations of Western civilization through the recognition that man is made in the image and likeness of God.”

The assignment of the Charterhouse to DHI had stirred up controversy to no end, with the residents of Collepardo even organizing several sit-ins in protest to say “no” to what was perceived as a kind of invasion by the extremists. Now, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage wants to see this concession through. The MiBAC, Undersecretary Gianluca Vacca let it be known, “has already started weeks ago accurate investigations on the concession of the Certosa di Trisulti to the Dignitatis Humanae Institute association, in order to ascertain possible omissions, defaults and deficiencies that could also constitute a cause for the forfeiture of the concession itself.” The secretary added, “keep in mind that the concession is dated Feb. 14, 2018, so the whole procedure of entrustment was started, followed and finalized under the previous government. When we arrived, in June 2018, the games were already done. So we took note of the awarding of the Charterhouse to DHI, but we also felt that there were critical elements that needed to be evaluated appropriately. Therefore, we first initiated an internal inspection to ascertain whether the procedures that led DHI to the awarding of the tender, and the subsequent administrative steps, were all carried out properly. The inspection is aimed at investigating specific legal and economic aspects. Second, we have requested an opinion from the State Advocacy, to assess whether the inconsistencies noted are such as to legitimize the eventual revocation of the concession. Based on what will be the outcome of these verifications we will decide what to do.”

All that remains, therefore, is to understand how the picture of the affair will evolve.
