Carabinieri of the Cultural Heritage Protection Unit find in Boston a book stolen in the 1980s in Monreale.

Carabinieri from the Palermo Cultural Heritage Protection Unit have found a book dating back to 1590 (it is an edition of Bernardino Telesio’s Varii de naturalibus rebus libelli ) that was stolen in Monreale, more precisely from the “Ludovico II De Torres” library of the archbishop’s seminary, in the 1980s. The book in question was found in Boston, USA, in the “Boston Public Library” at the end of an investigation coordinated by the Palermo Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The return of the volume will take place on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 as part of the conference “Ecclesiastical Cultural Heritage, Protection and Preservation between the Present and the Future” at the Archbishop ’s Palace of Monreale: this meeting is part of a cycle of regional conferences promoted by the National Office for Ecclesiastical Cultural Heritage and Worship Buildings of the Italian Bishops’ Conference and the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage in order to strengthen the culture of protection and sensitivity in safeguarding one of the most important sectors of the national cultural heritage: the ecclesiastical one.



Monsignor Michele Pennisi, archbishop of Monreale, and Monsignor Demetrio Gallaro, eparch of Piana degli Albanesi(Palermo) and delegate of the Sicilian Bishops’ Conference for ecclesiastical cultural heritage, will open the proceedings.
