A new masterpiece joins from April 21 the Cavallini Sgarbi Collection, on display at the Castello Estense in Ferrara until June 3.
It is the work"The Rosary" created by Cagnaccio di San Pietro, signed and dated between 1932 and 1934.
The protagonists are the artist’s wife, daughters and mother-in-law in a waiting attitude; in the background is the sea. They pray with rosary beads in their hands for the return of their son, husband and father.
The work was exhibited in 1934 at the Venice Biennale, in 1935 at the Quadriennale in Rome, and in 1936 at the Galleria Trieste.
Cagnaccio di San Pietro was born in Desenzano del Garda in 1897. A pupil in Venice of Ettore Tito, he mixed the sacred and the profane, with special attention to the world of the humble and the innocent.
