Brescia Musei launches a novel project: an escape room inside a church

The Brescia Musei foundation launches an original and unprecedented project: an escape room inside a church, the oratory of Santa Maria in Solario.

A completely unprecedented and highly original initiative that is sure to cause some discussion: the Brescia Musei foundation is in fact opening an escape room inside a church, the oratory of Santa Maria in Solario, an ancient house of worship that is now part of the Santa Giulia Museum’s tour route, and is known for the important 16th-century frescoes by Floriano Ferramola (Brescia, c. 1478 - 1528) that decorate its interior.

An escape room is understood to be a game of logic set in a themed room, which players must solve in stages, going through puzzles and riddles: the name of the game derives from the fact that the ultimate goal is to escape from the room (a set time limit is set, usually 60 minutes). Escape rooms are games suitable for stimulating reflection, logic, the ability to work as a team, often even lateral thinking. And now, therefore, the museums of Brescia are also launching their own escape room: it will take place from Friday, October 22, the date of the official start of this pioneering project that aims to intertwine history, art and ancient traditions with the world of “serious gaming.”

The game is titled Ora et Labora. Escape room, and it is a recreational-cultural proposal resulting from the collaboration between Fondazione Brescia Musei and Lexit escape room, an agency specializing in these games. It is a project designed specifically for Santa Maria in Solario: the proposal is aimed at groups of players ranging from a minimum of 2 to a maximum of 8 adults who, under the guidance of the game master, will have to collaborate in a path that offers questions related to the place and the Benedictine rule that was practiced in the monastery of Santa Giulia, to which the oratory was attached.

Ora et Labora. Escape room will be a time-limited experience: in fact, it will be held only on Friday, Oct. 22, Sunday, Oct. 31 (with a Halloween special), Friday, Nov. 5, Wednesday, Nov. 10, Friday, Nov. 19 and Wednesday, Nov. 24. There will be three shifts, at 6:15 pm, 8 pm and 9:45 pm. Each round will last 75 minutes, the cost is 150 euros for groups of up to 6 people, 160 euros for groups of 7 people, 170 euros for groups of 8 people. Reservations are required. More information is available from Brescia Musei.
