Botticelli in Hong Kong: here are the works the Uffizi sent to China


The Florentine Renaissance exhibition in Hong Kong opens tomorrow, featuring a substantial number of loans from the Uffizi. Here are what works the Florentine museum has sent to China.

Opening tomorrow in Hong Kong is the exhibition Botticelli and His Times. Masterworks from the Uffizi, an exhibition scheduled at theHong Kong Art Museum until Feb. 24, 2020. The exhibition is part of agreements the Uffizi signed with the city of Hong Kong in 2019, which included sending some 40 works of art to China in return for a 600,000-euro contribution from Hong Kong to the Florence museum.

The exhibition, sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, is under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and is jointly organized by the Uffizi and the Hong Kong Museum of Art. The aim, to trace a history of the Renaissance in Florence, particularly the Renaissance of the second generation, since works by artists such as Botticelli and Filippo Lippi are prevalent. There will then be focuses on the role of Medici patronage and the importance of literati in the development of Renaissance art themes. To promote it in China, there has also been recourse to influencer Chiara Ferragni, who just yesterday posted photos of her photo shoot at the Uffizi.



From the official lists of the Uffizi’s works on the move, currently on the move are 22 works normally on public display, which have been loaned to the Hong Kong Museum of Art. These are mainly works by Botticelli. Here are which ones.
