Books from the Acqua Alta Bookstore damaged by the tragic tide that hit Venice in November 2019 became works of art and were auctioned at Palazzo Vizzani in Bologna.
The initiative, which was given the title Libricontrocorrente, had started by three students from IED Milan, Maria Vittoria Miccoli Minarelli, Ambre Carladous and Anna Carera, who arrived in Venice and collected five hundred volumes too damaged to be sold and asked their Graphic Design classmates, fellow students from other courses and all available artists to adopt a book and turn it into a work of art to put it up for auction.
The first auction had opened on December 22 online, bringing together more than one hundred works of art born from the transformation of damaged books; on February 16, however, the presentation and auction of the thirty works created by the artists involved, thanks to the valuable collaboration of theAlchemilla association, took place at Palazzo Vizzani in Bologna.
The works on display, including small sculptures, illustrations and graphic art combinations, were created by sixteen artists: Karin Andersen, Stefano Arienti, Sergia Avveduti, Stefano Bergonzoni, David Casini, Andrea Chiesi, T-yong Chung, Cuoghi Corsello, Dado, Rosa Galindo, Franco Guerzoni, Lídia Masllorens, Andrea Renzini, Shafei Xia, and Wainer Vaccari, and the auction was held by the duo Saggion-Paganello in studio residency: the latter also created the installation Waiting for Water to Dissolve Everything, which is on display in the Bologna palace until Feb. 29, 2020.
Thanks to the charity auctions, about 10 thousand euros were raised, which will go to the Fondazione Querini Stampalia.
