As of today, December 18, Palazzina Magnani is the property of the Municipality of Bologna: this morning the deed was signed between the Municipality and the State Property Agency.

Unused since 2016, the palace is located inside the Manifattura delle Arti, has a covered area of about 1330 square meters and a large outdoor area of 3200 square meters; the structure recalls that of a villa with a loggia with arches open to the garden. The cost amounts to 1,900,000 euros.

"With the purchase of Palazzina Magnani, the project to establish a large international museum center with the works of Giorgio Morandi and MAMbo will be able to materialize," said Culture Councillor Matteo Lepore. "We will invest resources to renovate it and launch an architectural competition to make this building a landmark and a symbol of our city. With the redevelopment of Palazzina Magnani, the Manifattura delle Arti will be completed, the last piece compared to the excellences already present: Cineteca, MAMbo, Salara and DAMS - DAMSLab / La Soffitta."

The Manifattura delle Arti area also houses MAMbo and Cineteca, DAMS and Giardino del Cavaticcio, and Palazzina Magnani will become the permanent home of a museum dedicated to Giorgio Morandi. The artist’s collection had been left to the municipality to be displayed inside the city hall, but the spaces were inadequate and also damaged by the 2012 earthquake. While waiting for a permanent home, the works had been transferred to MAMbo and now, thanks to the City Council’s purchase of Palazzina Magnani, they will have a suitable and appropriate location.

The former Embassy cinema, which has been closed for years, will also be recovered: the latter, according to the announcement of the Agenzia del Demanio, will be redeveloped, maintaining the external walls and facades in respect of its historical value, and will be used as the headquarters of the Emilia Romagna Regional Directorate of the Agenzia del Demanio.
