Bologna, Lucio Dalla's luminarias dedicated to Futura auctioned. Proceeds to the oncology department

Up for auction are the illuminations on Bologna's pedestrian Via D'Azeglio dedicated to Lucio Dalla's famous song, Futura. Proceeds will benefit the Oncology Department of Policlinico Sant'Orsola.

The illuminations that had been installed along Via D’Azeglio in Bologna since December 2020, dedicated to Lucio Dalla’s famous song Futura, have been auctioned off in collaboration with Sotheby ’s and the Galleria d’Arte Maggiore.

The initiative was promoted by the Consortium of Pedestrian Via D’Azeglio Merchants, together with the City of Bologna and the Lucio Dalla Foundation, in favor of the Sant’Orsola Polyclinic Foundation. The luminaries dedicated to one of the best-known and most significant songs in the Bolognese artist’s repertoire had been created with the collaboration of maestro Pablo Echaurren Matta, who, in addition to the title, designed the musical instruments that accompany the words and the tribute to Lucio that closes the sequence of luminous stanzas. After the success of the charity auction of the L’anno che verrà luminarias that in 2019 enabled the raising of funds for the construction of the new Sant’Orsola Oncology Day Hospital, those of Futura will also go to charity: the proceeds will be donated to the Sant’Orsola Polyclinic Foundation to carry out the project Lo spazio che cura, aimed at the renovation of the Sant’Orsola Polyclinic Oncology.

The auction was held on the evening of Oct. 26 during a charity dinner prepared by chefs from theTour-tlen Association. During the dinner, Raphaelle Blanga, director of Sotheby’s Italy, auctioned off the luminarias made by artisan Antonio Spiezia based on an idea by Tiziano Corbelli; the lots included both illuminated signs and installations designed by master Echaurren to accompany the words of Futura.

All proceeds from the dinner and auction, after deducting out-of-pocket expenses, will go to support the campaign launched by the Sant’Orsola Foundation to give patients a whole new ward, where they can better experience the course of treatment. Thanks to the The Space that Cures project, the Oncology ward will be completely renovated.

“A little more than a year ago we inaugurated the renovation of the oncology day hospital, which was made possible thanks to the first auction of Dalla’s luminaries,” said Giacomo Faldella, president of Fondazione Policlinico Sant’Orsola Onlus. “In these months we have touched with our own hands the gratitude of the staff and patients, welcomed in a place full of greenery, light and colors: the right place, a good ally, for those who have to undertake a difficult path. Today we decided to go a step further and renovate the entire Oncology ward, where 900 people are admitted each year. It is an ambitious goal, but we are confident that by continuing to have the merchants of Via D’Azeglio, the Dalla Foundation and all those who will continue to support us by our side, together we will once again succeed in achieving it.”
