Yesterday, April 30, the famous portrait of Donna Franca Florio by Giovanni Boldini was sold at auction for 1.133 million euros.
The painting was being auctioned by the Bonino auction house in Rome as a result of the bankruptcy of the Acqua Marcia company; cultural associations and Palermo citizens had devised an extensive social crowdfunding campaign to succeed in buying back the painting and keep it in Palermo.
The name of the buyer has not yet been disclosed, as required by bankruptcy law, and the assignment of the portrait is provisional: a 10% higher bid may be submitted within 10 days, while the judge will have another 20 days to verify the regularity of the procedures.
