Boldini and Fashion, the exhibition that was a great success with the public and critics held at the Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara from February 16 to June 2, 2019, has won a prestigious award: it won the YOU-2 Award, sponsored by The Global Fine Art Awards, which gives prizes each year to the best exhibitions.
It was tied with Homeless Souls from the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, an exhibition that presented through works by international artists the themes of exile and expatriation.
The Boldini and Fashion exhibition was visited by more than 84,000 visitors in 107 days of opening to the public. Curated by Barbara Guidi with the collaboration of Virginia Hill and organized by the Ferrara Arte Foundation and the Giovanni Boldini Museum, the exhibition recounted for the first time the fascinating connection between fashion and one of the great artists of the late 19th century, Giovanni Boldini (Ferrara, 1842 - Paris, 1931). In his paintings, particularly portraits, the artist made himself an interpreter of the fashion of the time, immortalizing the elegance of the Belle Époque.
Moreover, following a thematic exhibition itinerary, the review unveiled the intertwining of art, fashion and literature, from Charles Baudelaire to Oscar Wilde, from Marcel Proust to Gabriele D’Annunzio, highlighting the worldliness and charm that provided the backdrop for the painter’s long career.
