It will remain closed until the release of hostages held by Hamas as of Oct. 7 , the Israel Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. Artists and curators made this known with a sign hung this morning at the doors of the pavilion, located in the Biennale’s Giardini. “The artists and curators of the Israel Pavilion will open the exhibition when an agreement is reached for a cease-fire and the release of the hostages,” the sign read.
“Art can wait,” said Mira Lapidot and Tamara Margalit, curators of the pavilion along with Ruth Patir. “Women, children and people living in hell, on the other hand, cannot.” For the Israeli delegation, it is a choice of solidarity with the victims of Hamas abductions, their families and the Israeli community.
