Culture Minister Dario Franceschini promised and reiterated that no culture worker would be left behind. Reality unfortunately proves that this is not the case: the prolonged closure of live entertainment, with theaters and concert halls shuttered without interruption since last October, has in fact put many entertainment workers in dire straits. Who are now in need of help: and in Bari, the industry has organized itself with food distribution to performing arts workers in distress due to restrictions imposed by the government to counter the Covid-19 pandemic.
The distribution began last March 19, thanks to a collaboration between Teatri di Bari and Banco delle Opere di Carità di Bari, which at the territorial level provides food supplies to people in need through local distribution centers, such as parishes, soup kitchens, and so on. The operation is implemented thanks to the EU program FEAD - European Aid Fund for the Destitute. which supports interventions in European Union countries to provide food or material assistance.
What is new this year is that for the first time there is a distribution specifically reserved for those working in the sector, which is carried out in the spaces of the Kismet Theater in Bari, made available (thanks to an agreement signed in January by the Theaters of Bari) for the distribution of food support to entertainment workers in the area. There are currently 100 planned beneficiaries. To be eligible for the support, workers in need without ISEE must produce documentation attesting to the ascertained condition of indigence by the Social Service of the municipality of residence or an Inps certificate of the recognition of the citizenship income benefit, while workers with ISEE must present their ISEE statement (if less than 6.000 euros they do not have to produce any other documentation, if the household is of only elderly with at least 67 years of age the threshold is increased to 7,560, if the ISEE exceeds the thresholds mentioned above but is less than 9,360 euros, a certificate of ascertained condition of indigence and appropriateness of the interventions from the partner organization is required).
“A hand outstretched in this long and difficult period for so many workers in the sector, forced to suffer the effects of the economic crisis that followed the wave of pandemic in Italy, which in fact led to the blocking of live activities and related crisis,” the organizers comment. “Full readiness of the Kismet Theater, therefore, to guarantee the exhausted community of those working in the theatrical, musical, film, television and traveling show business, the service of the Bank in this health emergency to be overcome and with serious economic and social crisis to be faced.”
The SLC CGIL PUGLIA, FISTEL CISL PUGLIA and FELSA CISL PUGLIA, UILCOM/UIL PUGLIA and AGIS Puglia and Basilicata unions are joining the initiative. Distribution takes place in the theater by reservation only, on Fridays, from 10 a.m. to noon and 4 to 6:30 p.m. More information can be found on the Bari Theaters website.
