Awarded the Ethical Photography Prize to Gabriele Cecconi

Winner of the Ethical Photography Award is young Italian documentary filmmaker Gabriele Cecconi.

Gabriele Cecconi, a young Italian documentary filmmaker, is the winner of the Fotografia Etica Prize: the organization of the Lodi Ethical Photography Festival in agreement with the jury of the same prize has decreed the winner after a careful evaluation of all the works that arrived finalists at the last edition of the Voglino Prize.

Cecconi’s project, titled The Wretched and the Earth, is a reportage chronicling the dramatic plight of the Rohingya Muslim population in Cox’s Bazar, southern Bangladesh. Already tried by the terrible wave of violence by the Myanmar army, this minority also has to struggle with the precarious conditions of a life increasingly marked by the deep environmental crisis and its effects on the ecosystem, community health and, therefore, survival itself. Looking at the resources of the territory, half of the nature reserve is destined to disappear within the current year: “The countdown,” writes the author, "has therefore begun.

Gabriele Cecconi has chronicled theKutupalong area in all its complexity, showing a situation that becomes symbolic of the great social, humanitarian and environmental challenges of mass migration and of our entire era.

His project will be exhibited, in October 2019, within the next edition of the Ethical Photography Festival.
