The Ricci Oddi Gallery in Piacenza will exhibit for three years one of Arturo Martini’s famous sculptures, La Pisana, a work created by the artist in 1928.
Visitors to the Piacenza museum venue will therefore be able to admire the famous Vicenza stone sculpture from Sunday, July 5, thanks to a free loan. The work belongs to a private collection.
It is one of the ten most important sculptures of the early 20th century and will be placed in a room dedicated to it, with a new layout. In addition, thanks to special lighting, it will be possible to see the work even at night, through a large glass window, while walking along San Siro Street.
“The stone specimen that is on display here,” said Nico Stringa, associate professor of Art History at the Cà Foscari University of Venice and a scholar of Arturo Martini’s work, “conveniently placed so as to have the privileged viewing point, makes one with its rough base layer, as opposed to the bronze where the base consists only of the light cloth on which the naked body of the Pisana is lying. So, in our case: stone from stone; stone from stone, nature from nature.”
