Artist Massimiliano Alioto: I cancel my exhibition: no to discrimination with green pass

Even from the art world come the first protests against the green pass. Artist Massimiliano Alioto thus cancels his exhibition at the Palazzo Ducale in Presicce: "I don't want to discriminate against anyone."

Even from the art world, the first protest initiatives against the green pass, the green certificate issued to those vaccinated against Covid, those who have recovered or those who present a negative swab taken within 48 hours, are beginning to arrive: it will be mandatory starting Aug. 6 in all museums, cultural venues, and exhibitions. The first protest comes from contemporary artist Massimiliano Alioto (Brindisi, 1972): on August 16 he was scheduled to hold a solo exhibition entitled #trappulp at the Palazzo Ducale in Presicce (Lecce), but the artist decided to cancel it precisely because of the requirement to show the green pass at the entrance.

“With enormous regret,” Alioto wrote on his Facebook profile, "my #trappulp exhibition scheduled to be held at the Palazzo Ducale in Presicce on August 16, 2021, given the latest dpcm issued by the presidency of the Council that requires for access to indoor cultural events the use of the green pass and given my intention not to discriminate against anyone, I thank the organization, the sponsors and the municipality of Presicce for respecting sorry my will to cancel the exhibition, I also thank all those who expressed solidarity with me."

The #trappulp exhibition had been in the works for some time and would have come three years after the Apulian artist’s last solo show, the Ghosts? exhibition held at the Andersen Museum in Rome.
