Artemisia Gentileschi's Self-Portrait as St. Catherine of Alexandria has entered the collections of London's National Gallery

A painting by Artemisia Gentileschi has joined the collections of the National Gallery in London: it is theSelf-Portrait as St. Catherine of Alexandria.

The Self-Portrait had remained unknown until last year and was sold at auction in Paris for 2,360,600 euros.

There are few paintings of women artists at the National Gallery in London, and Artemisia’s work is the first female portrait and the first self-portrait in the seventeenth-century Italian collection.
