Raising awareness of the issue of feminicide: that’s what theArena di Verona will do for the premiere of the Opera Festival, which will be opened on June 22, 2018 by Bizet’s Carmen, the “most famous feminicide in history,” as recalled by Cecilia Gasdia, former opera singer and the first woman superintendent of the Arena Foundation. The tribute will take the form of an empty seat in the stalls and a bouquet of thirty-two red roses, the number of women killed by their partners in Italy from Jan. 1, 2018 until today.
“We thought to remember and denounce this serious phenomenon on the occasion of the premiere,” Cecilia Gasdia stressed. “It has already tragically reached the number of 32 women killed by their partners in 2018. That is why we will leave an empty seat and lay a bouquet of 32 roses.”
