Amatrice, unveiled the bronze statue of Alfiero Nena, donated by the artist to the city

A 'Cow with Calf in Landscape' statue, donated by Alfiero Nena to the city as a sign of solidarity, was unveiled in Amatrice.

Yesterday, June 10, at 12 p.m., the bronze sculpture “Cow with calf in the landscape” by Alfiero Nena was unveiled. The work was placed at Camp Zero in Amatrice as a gift from the artist as a sign of solidarity with the ranchers and farmers living in the areas affected by the August 2016 earthquake.

The statue was placed there by the social promotion association IL FORO of Rome and theTerra di Amatrice Association, which was responsible for making a base for the monument out of stones from the collapsed buildings. “It is necessary to keep the activities alive, without which there is no recovery. I want to support the farmers and ranchers who have not abandoned livestock and land,” Nena said at the unveiling.

“This work is a symbol. Amatrice is alive and will live,” said Azelio Marsicola, councillor for agriculture and tourism. Born in Treviso, Alfiero Nena studied at theAcademy of Fine Arts in Rome under Emilio Greco, whose valuable and esteemed collaborator he became in works of great commitment. The basilica of S.Maria del Popolo in Rome, Villa Jovis on Mount Tiberius in Capri and the Sacred Vatican Grottoes are some of the places where his works can be found to which, now, Amatrice is added.
