Alberto Angela does not succeed in his encore of September’s feat, when with his documentary on Leonardo da Vinci he had managed to beat Maria De Filippi’s Amici Celebrities, albeit by a narrow margin: 3 million 614 thousand viewers against 3 million 066 thousand, in percentage terms 20 percent share against 19.45 percent. In January, his Meraviglie, the Rai Uno program with which, in each episode, the famous popularizer presented different Italian sites belonging to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, always lost the comparison to Maria De Filippi’s C’è posta per te.
Meraviglie had a high hit only on Saturday, January 4, when, still during the holiday season, it had virtually no competitors: 4,649,000 viewers and a 23 percent share had crowned Alberto Angela king of prime time again (the comparison was with Albano and Romina’s program on Channel 5, 55 Steps in the Sun, which had stopped at 11.4 percent share). On the following three Saturdays, Alberto Angela was always far behind De Filippi, who restarted on Channel 5 on January 11 with a new season of her famous program: 5,930,000 viewers (30.2 percent share) versus Alberto Angela’s 3,831,000 (17.6 percent). Numbers were also confirmed on January 18 (5,914,000 and 30.9 percent share for C’è posta per te, 3,829,000 and 17.7 percent for Meraviglie) and on January 25, the date of the last episode of this edition of Meraviglie: for De Filippi 5,766,000 viewers and 30.3 percent share, and for Angela a further drop (3,677,000 and 17.2 percent).
Angela did not comment on the audience figures, but merely tweeted, writing that “it was a beautiful adventure among the Wonders of Italy,” and thanked the audience for following the program. It has to be said that despite losing the direct challenge, Rai managed to keep almost 4 million viewers glued in front of their screens at all times for a program that offered a presentation of some gems of Italy’s cultural heritage.
