Ai Weiwei posts video on Instagram of the demolition of his Beijing studio: they did it without warning

Ai Weiwei, a renowned Chinese artist and activist, denounced on his Instagram profile the demolition of his studio in Beijing.

The artist posted some videos, writing, "Today they started demolishing my studio ’zuo you’ in Beijing without any notice. It is an East German socialist-style industrial building."

It had been his main studio since 2006: it was located in the Caochangdi Art District; several galleries had already been demolished there due to a development program in the area.

Videos on Instagram show a bulldozer shattering the studio’s gallery windows.
