Agrigento's Valley of the Temples wins first Italian Landscape Award


Winning first place in the first edition of the Italian Landscape Award was the Valley of the Temples Archaeological and Landscape Park in Agrigento.

The first edition of the"Italian Landscape" award was won by the Agri Gentium landscape regeneration project for the Valley of the Temples Park in Agrigento.

The award was presented Tuesday, March 14, 2017, to the director of thePark Authority by Minister of Cultural Heritage Dario Franceschini. The project will represent Italy at the Council of Europe Landscape Prize.



The motivation for awarding the first prize to the Valley of the Temples is that it has complied with the principles of the European Landscape Convention through policies of excellence with the ability to combine the protection and enhancement of cultural heritage with the recovery of the historical memory of ancient production practices and the creation of products of exceptional quality, as well as having activated research and studies aimed at enhancement in the rural areas of the Park. Of fundamental importance was the ability to have involved the local population to raise awareness of environmental values, which are necessary for the achievement of individual and collective well-being.
