After 50 years, tourist repents and returns mosaic tiles to Paestum

Gabriel Zuchtriegel received a package with mosaic tiles with a note of apology: after fifty years tourist regrets.

Fifty years ago a tourist visited the Paestum excavations and enclosed in a box some tiles from a mosaic found at the archaeological site.

Recently a TV program dedicated to Paestum awakened the guilt of the man, who searched through the boxes for those tiles and sent them along with a note to the director of the Paestum Archaeological Park, Gabriel Zuchtriegel.

The note reads, “I dug through the boxes and found the stones, which I return to you. Please accept my apologies for my appalling behavior.”

The man lives in Washington state and his visit dates back to the 1970s.
