Vatican Museums director Barbara Jatta announced during a meeting-seminar held in Loreto, as reported by Ansa, the birth of a study center in the Marian city dedicated to Lorenzo Lotto. The center will be chaired by herself and will aim to carry out activities such as the creation of archives and databases, with the intention of promoting research and the deepening of artistic knowledge. The Study Center will include national and international scholars, including Enrico Maria Dal Pozzolo, Marco Collaretta, Francesca Coltrinari, Vito Punzi, Massimo Firpo, Mauro Lucco, and Fabrizio Briferali, as well as experts from the Prado and the National Gallery.
The director stressed the strong connection between Lorenzo Lotto and Loreto, where the painter spent the last years of his life, and the importance of Lorenzo Lotto’s many works dedicated to Madonnas in the museums.
“We announce the establishment of the Study Center on September 8, the same date on which he made his oblation,” Barbara Jatta recalled. “Perhaps a sign of Providence,” she concluded, highlighting the painter’s importance in the religious and cultural context of Loreto.
