A Modigliani painting joins the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice

Thanks to the bequest of a Venetian collector, Modigliani's Femme en blouse marine became part of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice.

Starting in June, Femme en blouse marine, a painting by Amedeo Modigliani made in 1916 will be exhibited and become part of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice thanks to a bequest from Venetian collector Luisa Toso.

The portrait depicts a girl with short dark hair, with an elongated face typical of Modigliani’s portraits, wearing a blouse with a navy lapel.

The painting was restored by the museum’s conservation department thanks to the support of EFG: the layer of varnish, over time oxidized, applied during a previous restoration, was removed, which had altered the colors, especially the cool tones, and the rosy complexion had turned ochre. Now the colors are in their original hues.
