A light installation for the centenary of Beppe Fenoglio's birth

On the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Beppe Fenoglio, the Resistance writer who was born in Alba on March 1, 1922, Alba-born light artist Emilio Ferro has created a light installation, conceptually evoking the figure of the"secret cardiopulse," a neologism coined by Fenoglio himself to describe the secret movement of Alba’s Partisan Free Zone from Oct. 10, 1944, and for the next twenty-three days. The signal resonates and lights up starting from Olivetti Studio44, positioned on the second floor of the Beppe Fenoglio Study Center in Alba, in the exact place where the writer loved to work. Four beams of light, tilted specularly to the Beppe Fenoglio Study Center, compose Emilio Ferro’s light work. A visual dialogue that continues ideally toward Turin and the Cosmos.

The Mole Antonelliana, home of the National Cinema Museum of Turin, will light up with the projection of the image of Beppe Fenoglio 22 and then orient itself in space toward what NASA, thanks to the discovery of the European Observatory on March 1, 1990, has named Planet #7935Beppefenoglio.

The installation is accompanied by a sound intervention conceived by composer Max Casacci, who sampled the sounds of the typewriter that belonged to Fenoglio, used for the occasion by Margherita, the writer’s daughter.
