The government has decided to celebrate the five hundredth anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci, which will coincide in 2019, of Raphael Sanzio, in 2020, as well as the seven hundredth anniversary of the death of Dante Alighieri, which will fall in 2021.
For this initiative, the Interministerial Committee for Economic Planning allocated in recent weeks a sum of 15 million euros earmarked with particular attention to the production of audio-visual material. "This achievement is the result of teamwork with colleagues Dario Parrini, former mayor of Vinci, and Laura Cantini. I would also like to thank Minister Franceschini, because this was also possible thanks to serious and effective planning and synergy between the government, regions and territorial authorities," said Luca Lotti, minister for sports.
Mr. Parrini said, “Leonardo’s five-hundredth anniversary celebrations must see exceptional investments on three fronts: infrastructure and mobility, scientific rigor and tourism-cultural promotion: there are the premises to work well in all three of these areas. With these resources we have a chance to do something great, as we did in 1952 for the 500th anniversary of the birth of the artist from Vinci. On scientific rigor Vinci has always known how to combine popularization and seriousness, and we will certainly be able to build a solid and effective container from all points of view.”
