A storehouse of amphorae containing various foodstuffs has been found intact in Pompeii. A total of fourteen amphorae were found in a room whose storage function was recognized thanks to graffiti found on one of the walls. The amphorae emerged from restoration work being carried out in a building near the Schola Armaturarum. Upon completion of the work, the amphorae will be relocated in situ.
Pompeii,“ commented Cultural Heritage Minister Dario Franceschini, ”is the symbol of a story of redemption. A long and silent work has been done in these years, and the possibilities for growth are still extraordinary. Having overcome the emergency, excavations have now resumed in areas never investigated until now. And, as we see, the results are outstanding. It is worth remembering that the Schola suffered a collapse in 2010 that caused a worldwide sensation. Now, new projects for the enhancement of the archaeological site (recovery of degraded areas, opening of quarters hitherto inaccessible, maintenance, new laboratories) can stand as the basis for the revitalization of Pompeii and for a future under the banner of research.
