New Director of Collections at the British Museum in London appointed: he is Xerxes Mazda. Currently Director of Collections and Curatorial Affairs at the British Library, where he led curatorial teams and was responsible for many of the major digitization, access, and research programs, from next spring he will be responsible for the management and curation of the British Museum’s collections and will play a key role in the Museum’s strategic leadership, as well as the Masterplan. Xerxes Mazda has spent the past three decades in the cultural and museum sector working for major institutions in the United Kingdom, including eight years, from 2005 to 2013, at the British Museum. He oversaw the public programming of twenty major special exhibitions and six new permanent galleries.
“I am delighted to return to the British Museum at this turning point in its history to lead the curatorial teams that care for one of the world’s greatest collections,” Mazda said. “There are some great opportunities on the horizon with the Masterplan, and I love working collaboratively to engage visitors in the best way possible through exhibitions and outreach.”
“I’m really pleased that Xerxes is joining our outstanding team. His expertise will be invaluable to the Museum, especially at this time in our history,” said British Museum Director Nicholas Cullinan.
