The Uffizi Galleries launches Uffizi under the Tree: virtual rooms where children can explain Christmas. Expert narrators from the Department for Education will illustrate the Nativity, the birth of baby Jesus, through two masterpieces of art. The initiative is aimed at all families: each can accommodate ten children and can also bring together online friends and relatives near and far.
The most authentic values of Christmas will thus be told through art, with the intention of giving serenity, comfort and hope in difficult times such as the ones we are experiencing.
Starting Monday, Dec. 14, it is possible to book to access the virtual tour: you must write to ga-uff.scuolagiovani@beniculturali.it; you will receive a link with instructions. The cost to activate a room (which can be accessed by a maximum of ten children) is 40 euros. Everyone will be able to interact with the narrator.
The meeting will last 30/40 minutes and will start with the choice of two paintings from which to start the story, selecting them from a ’Christmas list’ visible at www.uffizi.it/visite-speciali/uffizi-sotto-l-albero. Conversations may also be in LIS and on request in other European languages.
“Our Christmas Under the Tree will allow children to learn to read art as if it were a wonderful fairy tale, illustrated by real paintings: the museum’s masterpieces,” commented Uffizi Director Eike Schmidt. “It will be an opportunity to link learning with fun. And it will be a unique opportunity to bring together even those who are physically distant, to call together distant friends and relatives, uniting affection and knowledge on the occasion of the most beloved holiday of the year.”
