Two important new projects at Miramare Park and Castle: the Orangery at the New Greenhouses in the Park and the Turret with the Castle’s mechanical clock, restored thanks to the CRTrieste Foundation.
“Another substantial goal in achieving a mission that has been pursued for several years and aimed at preserving, enhancing and making the museum site accessible to the public, including those parts of the Museum that until now were not,” stressed the director of the Historical Museum and Park of Miramare Castle, Andreina Contessa.
Regarding the Orangery, this is theincipit of a project: to realize Maximilian of Habsburg’s dream of having an Orangery in Miramare. The dream was not realized because planted in the ground, the citrus trees did not withstand the weather of the Trieste bora. “Since then many things have changed: the park with its majestic trees offers shelter and, most importantly, the potted plants will be transported to the New Greenhouses to overcome the rigors of winter,” they let them know.
“The inauguration of the Turret,” Contessa added, “manifests the desire to make the entire complex safely usable. The generous contribution of the CRTrieste Foundation has been fundamental in achieving this goal, and their commendable patience in not backing down in the face of the problems that the restoration phases presented from time to time. Instead, with the new project of the Orangery, the determination, established since my arrival here in Miramare, to restore the Castle and its Park to its original design and splendor, desired and conceived by its founder, through a philological study of documents and photographs of the time, is demonstrated.”
The Castle Tower will be open to the public on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 2, 3, 4 and 5 p.m., on the occasion of European Heritage Days. Reservations are mandatory, by writing to eventi.miramare@beniculturali.it
