A 3D high-definition virtual tour to discover the rooms on the second floor of the MAO Museum of Oriental Art in Turin: an initiative aimed at primary and secondary school students in the city of Turin, who will be able to participate from home in a treasure hunt in search of some of the museum’s most fascinating works. These are told through in-depth fact sheets created by MAO’s Educational Services.
The MAOin 3D is one of the Edu-Lab projects dedicated toinnovation in education in which to carry out the testing of solutions for teaching and for the organization of next-generation learning environments, also focusing on the protagonism of students and teachers.
" The MAO in 3D initiative combines innovation, technology and educational solutions, allowing for the testing of forms of connection between educational systems and territorial structures dedicated to culture and education. A unique opportunity to offer students the chance to experience new learning and acquire skills through the knowledge of artistic and cultural treasures, otherwise not usable at this time of health emergency," comment the municipal councillors for Education.
Created by the companies Vertical srl digital communication and Dktk3d virtual communication, which were chosen through a call addressed to companies to identify innovative experiments to be applied in Turin schools, the project offers children and young people a playful and engaging itinerary that allows them to discover some of the most beautiful rooms of the museum and get closer to the treasures of Oriental art preserved there.
The museum houses one of the most significant Oriental collections in Italy: opened in 2008, it holds about 2,300 works that offer a wide panorama of the art of the ancient cultures of Asia, arranged in five galleries according to the cultural areas ofprovenience; more than 1,400 excavated artifacts from the pre-Islamic period from the Iraqi excavations in Seleucia and Coche are also added.
“We are very proud that the City of Turin has chosen the Fondazione Torino Musei and in particular the MAO to launch this important pilot project,” says the Secretary General of the Fondazione Torino Musei, Elisabetta Rattalino. “It is an opportunity to experiment with the use of technology in the service of education, allowing people to discover our rich heritage of Oriental art in an enjoyable and educational way.”
Starting Friday, May 8, teachers can join the project by sending an email to edulab@comune.torino.it, indicating their name, school and class that will participate in the virtual tour. Accredited teachers will receive an information kit on how to enjoy the game and a link to virtually visit the museum with instructions on how the game works.
