In Turin, GAM and MAO are ready to reopen their doors to visitors: the two museum venues will again allow public access from Friday, June 12, and Saturday, June 13.
Thanks to the support of the Polytechnic University of Turin and the company Onleco Srl, which took care of setting up the security procedures required by the health emergency, it will be possible to return to admire the works of the Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art and the Museum of Oriental Art.
They will be accessible four days a week on a staggered basis, and admissions will be capped. GAM will open Friday through Monday, while MAO will open Saturday through Tuesday, with hours for both from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., except Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. On the occasion of St. John’s Day, Wednesday, June 24, the museums of the Fondazione Torino Musei will be extraordinarily open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
In addition to the permanent collections, temporary exhibitions can also be visited: at GAM, the exhibitions Helmut Newton. Work and Horses, Costumes and Dwellings. The rediscovery of the Saluzzo fair by Carlo Pittara (the latter can be visited by purchasing a ticket for the exhibition dedicated to Newton). Also from June 12, a new exhibition in the Videotheque dedicated to Giuseppe Chiari will open, while on June 24 the exhibition Forma/Informe la fase non-objective nella fotografia italiana 1935-1958 in Wunderkammer will open.
The MAO, on the other hand, has extended the exhibition Painting Asia from Life dedicated to Savage Landor’s paintings until Sept. 6, 2020, while a new rotation of Japanese prints and paintings on vertical roll, titled The Poetry of Landscape, and the project Stories from Morocco, will be offered starting June 13. Objects Witnessing Identity and Memory, carried out in collaboration with the Egyptian Museum and the Bab Sahara Association of Turin.
For the Art Library and thePhotographic Archive, accessible by appointment only, one will have to wait until June 22. The Library will be able to accommodate a maximum of six people in the reading room at the same time and will be open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be necessary to make reservations by phone at 011 4429585 and access will be allowed to scholars who wear a mask and gloves throughout their stay, subject to temperature measurement.
