There were more than 2 million visitors to the Colosseum this summer

This summer the Colosseum was visited by more than two million people. In fact, in June, July, and August 2023, 2,277,139 tickets were purchased to visit the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine, the three sites that are part of the Colosseum Archaeological Park, an increase of 315,493 coupons, +16 percent compared to the same period in 2019 (1,961,646 tickets) and an average of about 25,000 daily visitors.

The record number of visitors is also considered the result of the expansion of the cultural offer proposed to visitors in 2023 with the opening to the public of new spaces within the Colosseum and the monuments of the Roman Forum and Palatine. With regard to the Flavian Amphitheater, the new panoramic elevator makes the upper levels of the monument accessible also to a public with motor difficulties, while in the basement (open to the public in 2021) it is now possible to visit, with a multimedia installation and an exhibition dedicated to gladiators, what remains of the cryptoporticus connecting with the Ludus Magnus (the gladiators’ gymnasium). In the Roman Forum and Palatine, the most significant opening involved the monumental Domus Tiberiana, the oldest imperial palace, which is once again accessible after being closed for nearly fifty years.

Our commitment, which thanks to the work of the Park Director, Alfonsina Russo, we are already carrying out, is to further increase the offer, as happened recently with the inauguration of the Domus Tiberiana, and to raise the quality of services.”
