The beggar from the Court Nativity scene stolen in the 1980s has returned to the Royal Palace of Caserta and will soon return to his place in the central rock of the Court Nativity scene for all to admire at Christmas time. The shepherd from the Royal Crib was returned to the Royal Palace of Caserta at the conclusion of an operation by the Naples-based Nucleo Tutela Patrimonio Culturale, led by Captain Massimiliano Croce.
In May 2021, an admirer of Neapolitan nativity scenes informed the military that he had spotted a shepherd that had been stolen from the Reggia di Caserta and was for sale at a well-known Neapolitan auction house. The shepherd turned out to be among those that belonged to King Charles and were stolen in the 1980s.
The museum’s historic installation will be the focus of in-depth initiatives.
