The Santa Maria della Scala museum complex in Siena combines art and technology withinclusivity thanks to BrainControl Avatar, a dedicated exhibition space access service specifically designed for people with mobility impairments, who will be able to remotely admire museum environments and collections through a remote-controlled robotic alter ego.
The Avatar integrates different modes of interaction, from mouse simulator to eye pointers to BCI (Brain-Computer Interface) mode, which interprets and classifies brain waves generated by imagined movement.
Connecting remotely, the system, developed by Siena-based company Liquidweb, allows visitors to move around the museum, adjust audio, video and height of field of view independently, and admire objects up close, read captions and interact. The service, by reservation only, is free of charge.
Tours last about an hour and will be held for the month of August on Tuesday, August 8, Thursday, 17, Tuesday, 22, Thursday, 24, Tuesday, 29 and Thursday, 31 at 3 p.m. The tours, which can be booked on the museum’s website www.santamariadellascala.com will cover the Santa Maria della Scala Pellegrinaio, except for those on Thursday 24 and 31, which will cover the Piccolomini Spannocchi collection.
