In the Old Woods of the Royal Palace of Caserta, the marble sculpture of Venus combing her hair has regained its original splendor thanks to a restoration work carried out by museum restorers. The statue, made of fine white Carrara marble, depicts the goddess Venus in the act of combing her hair, accompanied by a putto riding a dolphin with monstrous features.
The restoration work, carried out right in the shade of the centuries-old trees of the Royal Park, involved enzymatic cleaning aimed at removing the biological patinas that had altered the beauty of the sculpture over time. Thanks to this operation, the sculptural group has returned to its original whiteness, giving visitors the chance to admire its fine details once again.
The Venus combing her hair is located in one of the oldest and most striking areas of the Royal Park, once belonging to the gardens of the Acquaviva princes.
The maintenance work is part of a programmed conservation plan that the Royal Palace of Caserta has initiated to preserve the vast sculptural and monumental heritage of the Vanvitellian complex. In the coming weeks, in fact, the restoration program will continue with further interventions aimed at maintaining and enhancing the statuary of the Old Woods, one of the most fascinating places in the Royal Park.
