The exhibition Lessico Italiano, faces and stories of our country, which kicks off at the Vittoriano starting tomorrow, was presented this morning in Rome. At the same time, a new enhancement project was also presented for the Vittoriano, which is likely to become an autonomous museum, as explained by Cultural Heritage Minister Alberto Bonisoli, who announced at the conference that the Vittoriano will break away from the Lazio Museum Pole.
“We are facing an organic project that wants to give a more effective reading of this monument,” the minister said. “Until yesterday the Vittoriano was dedicated to the Risorgimento, to the Unknown Soldier, to the figure of Victor Emmanuel. From today it becomes something more. It becomes a place where, both culturally and iconically, Italian-ness is recognized. This project stems from the desire to give a testimony to the immense heritage of our culture, born many centuries before political unity. We want to explain what it means to be Italian today to Italians themselves and to tourists, and how this path has unfolded and evolved over centuries.”
“It is precisely the Italian language, the birth of which predates political unity,” Bonisoli continued, "that is the leitmotif of the first path that we wanted to devise the point of perspective and departure of the exhibition. A representation of the key moments of Italianness. Hence the exhibition Italian Lexicon, the starting point of the project on which the director of the Polo Museale Edith Gabrielli, whom I thank, worked passionately. Today’s date is not accidental. June 19 is the anniversary of the proclamation of the tricolor as the national flag of the Republic. A flag that, I recall, is defined by Article 12 of the Constitution."
During the press conference, Bonisoli also said that the museum will also be completely free of charge to make it more “incisive” in its ability to make itself representative of “our identity.”
