Rome, Cruise Hall opens to the public for the first time with free guided tours

Starting Feb. 18, 2022, the Cruise Hall, a branch of the Archaeology and Art History Library, will open to the public for the first time with free guided tours.

As of Feb. 18, 2022, theVittoriano and Palazzo Venezia Institute’s(VIVE) Cruise Room will open to the public for the first time. The room, in the Roman College building, is now home to a branch of the Library of Archaeology and Art History. Lined with shelving containing rare editions, it preserves intact the collected atmosphere of the Biblioteca Major, where the friars and students of the prestigious Collegio Romano institute studied.

Free guided tours will give the public a chance to enter this little-known gem and also admire some of the precious volumes preserved here. The visits start from Palazzo Venezia and are part of a broader activity to relaunch the Library of Archaeology and History of Art by the new VIVE Institute: the latter, since taking over the management of the Library in recent months, has been working together with the Ministry of Culture to enhance its structure and library holdings, in preparation for its relocation to Palazzo San Felice, near the Quirinale.

Various initiatives are also planned for the months of February and March, every Saturday and Sunday: the new Vittoriano and Palazzo Venezia Institute (VIVE) directed by Edith Gabrielli provides visitors with a wide program of family activities, tactile paths, visits in LIS - Italian Sign Language, and guided tours for adults in Italian and English, to discover known and lesser-known aspects of the Vittoriano and Palazzo Venezia.
