On the occasion of Ravenna’s Theodoric Week, which will culminate in celebrations of the 1,500th anniversary of King Theodoric’s death on August 30, 526, the Emilia Romagna Regional Museums Directorate has scheduled a series ofextraordinary evening openings of Theodoric’s Mausoleum. These are made possible by the Ministry of Culture’s enhancement plan and are accompanied by special events.
The Theodoric Week was established for the first time this year, August 27-29. The main theme is Ravenna. La dolce morta: the celebrations of Dante’s death in the city, Ravenna, distinguished for its famous funerary monuments and precious sarcophagi.
On Aug. 28, the Mausoleum of Theodoric is scheduled to open from 8 to 11 p.m. with guided tours entitled The King’s Legends at 8, 9 and 10 p.m. given by Paola Novara and Ilaria Lugaresi. Fifteen people are allowed by reservation for each round.
On August 29, the monument will be open from 7:30 to 11:30 pm. At 9 p.m. the event Voices and Sounds is scheduled. Guidance and Consolation. Vocal-instrumental ensemble of the G. Verdi Higher Institute of Musical Studies in Ravenna. 60 seats by reservation.
