Pisa, virtual guided tour of the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo to discover Giovanni Pisano

The Museum of the Opera del Duomo of Pisa's lecture series continues: dedicated to Giovanni Pisano the virtual guided tour in the museum.

OnThursday, April 8, at 5 p.m., the fifth meeting of the lecture series New "Miracles," organized by theOpera della Primaziale Pisana and the Pisan Historical Society and dedicated to the discovery of the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo in Pisa, will be held.

The protagonist of the online meeting is Giovanni Pisano. In fact, his works mark the entire exhibition itinerary of the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo. They are encountered in the large thirteenth-century square hall that houses figures and decorative elements from the external crowning of the baptistery, the undertaking in which Giovanni Pisano worked alongside his father Nicola, and then admire the “gradule,” the carved stone ribbon that ran along the base of the cathedral. Finally, in the room entirely dedicated to the great master are three sculptural groups that testify to his greatest art. The upper floor then displays ecclesiastical furnishings, with two masterpieces of small-scale sculpture, the famous Madonna and Child carved in ivory and an extraordinary painted wooden Crucifix.

The virtual guided tour will be led by Luca Palozzi, a specialist in 14th-century sculpture and expert connoisseur of Giovanni Pisano’s work, who will invite the audience to dwell on the masterpieces also preserved outside the museum.
