The new Museo dell’Opera del Duomo in Pisa ( article and gallery with photographs of the new arrangements here), reopened after six years of closure for restoration and refitting, is offering its visitors a series of free guided tours. The museum reopened to the public last October 18, and free tours will be held every Tuesday, the first at 10:30 a.m. and the second at 5:30 p.m. It is possible to reserve a tour for up to two people, and to reserve your spot you must send an email to mod@opapisa.it. The Opera della Primaziale Pisana will send confirmation, subject to availability
The public will thus have the opportunity to get an in-depth look at the museum’s masterpieces: from Giovanni Pisano’s sculptures to the imposing Borgognone Christ, from Spinello Aretino’s panel painting to the works of Tino di Camaino, from refined reliquaries to the extraordinary bronze griffin. The Museo dell’Opera del Duomo is spread over three thousand square meters, arranged on two floors, presenting the public with a collection of 380 works divided into 26 sections (25 rooms plus the cloister). The new itinerary has been entrusted to art historian Marco Collareta, and the architectural firms of Adolfo Natalini and Magni&Guicciardini, coordinated by Giuseppe Bentivoglio, have taken care of the installations.
Information can be found on the website of the Opera della Primaziale Pisana.
