Opening today in Cividale del Friuli (Udine) is the renovated Palazzo de Nordis, which will permanently house the collection of works that Giancarlo De Martiis has donated to the municipality during recent years.
An exhibition itinerary that, as curator Stefano Cecchetto says, "tells the story of its creator, Giancarlo De Martiis, in the development of an itinerary through twentieth-century art. His collection reflects a passion cultivated over the years, in an autonomous and solitary manner."
Among the masterpieces on display are pastels by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Informal works by Karel Appel, Victor Vasarely, Sebastian Matta, Graham Sutherland, paintings by Afro Basaldella and Virgilio Guidi, Mario Sironi, and Emilio Vedova. Also, works by three important artists of the 20th century, such as Tancredi Parmeggiani, Giuseppe Santomaso and Zoran Mušic, and Czech artist Pravoslav Kotík.
The collector’s most recent passion has been investigating the avant-garde movements of the Eastern countries of the early twentieth century, with artists such as Vasili Ermilov, Alexei von Jawlensky Alexei Georgievic, Ljubov Srgeevna Popova, Olga Vladimirovna Rozanova, Pravoslav Kotik, Nadezda Andreevna Udalcova, Aleksandr Michailovic Rodchenko, and many others.
The permanent collection at Nordis Palace is then open to the public daily, starting September 15, 2020, according to the following hours: Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. From October 1, winter hours will start: Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tickets: Full 10 euros, reduced 8 euros, reduced 5 euros for children up to 25 years old. Free for children up to 8 years old. Admission will be free for everyone on the afternoon of every Monday, with reservations required.
