The National Galleries of Ancient Art at Palazzo Barberini and Galleria Corsini in Rome announce that they are scheduled to reopen to the public in early June, subject to the security measures that will be taken at both venues.

In addition, the two ongoing temporary exhibitions have been extended: the exhibition Orazio Borgianni. A restless genius in Caravaggio’s Rome, curated by Gianni Papi, will be on view at Palazzo Barberini until October 30, 2020. This is the first monographic exhibition dedicated to Orazio Borgianni (Rome, 1574 - 1616) with eighteen autograph works, including two of the artist’s masterpieces conserved at the museum,Self-Portrait and Holy Family with St. John, St. Elizabeth and an Angel, three international loans from Edinburgh, Amsterdam and Dresden, joined by seventeen works by other artists, such as Antiveduto Gramatica, Giovanni Lanfranco, Carlo Saraceni, and Giovanni Serodine.

In contrast, the exhibition Rembrandt at the Corsini Gallery: the Self-Portrait as St. Paul, curated by Alessandro Cosma, held at the Corsini Gallery, will be open to the public until September 30, 2020. The exhibition focuses on the Leiden master’s masterpiece, originally belonging to the collection of Cardinal Neri Maria Corsini, which returns to Italy for the first time since 1799. A series of documents and engravings reconstruct the collecting story that brought the canvas to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, where it is still housed today.
