Maria Emanuela Bruni is the new President of the MAXXI Foundation, officially appointed on Friday, March 28, by Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli, following the constant support guaranteed to MAXXI during the regency period that began last September, which allowed the museum staff to continue their work, activities and projects on a regular basis.

An art historian and journalist with a long experience in the service of institutions, Maria Emanuela Bruni was the first woman, in 2008, to lead the Ceremonial of Palazzo Chigi. Under her leadership, MAXXI’s fall 2024 season kicked off, during which eight exhibitions were inaugurated, starting with the project curated by Diller Scofidio + Renfro studio titled Unstable Architecture; the exhibition of MAXXI BVLGARI PRIZE finalists now in its fourth edition, culminating in Monia Ben Hamouda’s victory; Memorable. Ipermoda, curated by Maria Luisa Frisa, which marked the return of fashion to the Museum’s spaces; the monographic exhibition dedicated to one of the masters of contemporary photography, Guido Guidi; and the project to refurbish the Museum’s collection The Large Glass. Finally, the two exhibitions created as part of the collaborations with Autostrade per l’Italia and Ferrero: Italy in Motion. Highways and the Future, imagined to mark the centenary of the construction of Italy’s first highway in 1924, and joyn! A journey into the world of Nutella® for its 60th anniversary.

“It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome the privilege of presiding over a reality of such great relevance in the Italian and international cultural scene,” said the newly appointed president. “I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Minister Alessandro Giuli for his trust. I will strive to repay it with dedication, enhancing MAXXI’s role as a center of cultural and creative innovation and helping to further consolidate its visibility and influence, in Italy and abroad. In synergy with the museum team, we will work to promote research, inclusiveness and experimentation, values that have always distinguished our museum.”
