New exhibition spaces at the National Archaeological Museum in Naples by the end of the year

Structural upgrades continue at the National Archaeological Museum in Naples. New exhibition spaces and a new staircase by the end of the year.

Structural upgrades continue at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, with work underway on the basement level to expand the visitor path. Thanks to funds from the 2014/2020 Development and Cohesion Fund, work is underway to make these rooms more functional and accessible. By the end of the year, the MANN will be enriched with an area dedicated to temporary exhibitions and events, new restrooms and reorganized storage rooms.

Among the most significant interventions, which will enhance areas of the museum that have never been open to the public, will be the construction of a new staircase, designed to connect the ground floor to the new exhibition spaces. Located in the east wing near the current entrance, it will stand out for its grandeur, recalling the majesty of the museum’s historic central staircase.

To allow work to progress, starting Feb. 5 the main entrance will be temporarily moved to the west gate, located on the embankment at the corner of Pessina Street. Dedicated signage and graphics will guide visitors through the new access arrangements, while the public will also be able to follow the progress of the construction site via the museum’s official social channels.

“We are working for a Museum that is increasingly accessible and adapted to the needs of the public: we are focusing on the quality of services and exhibition solutions that take into account all the different possible user profiles. Carrying out structural interventions on a historic building represents a challenge, difficult and fascinating at the same time, in search of the right balance between the needs of architectural protection and the desire to offer itself as a modern cultural and research center,” commented Massimo Osanna, Director General of State Museums.
